How
We Pack Your Purchase
At Old
Fidelity, we understand that one of the biggest concerns when
purchasing a vintage radio online is how well it will be packed before
shipping.
Like many collectors, we
have experienced radios arriving damaged because of poor packaging. That
is why we have developed a careful, proven packing process designed
specifically for fragile antique electronics and wooden cabinets.
To
ensure safe delivery, we use heavy-duty packing materials, multiple
layers of protective cushioning, double-boxing techniques, and in some
cases custom-built wooden crates. Our goal is not simply to ship
your radio — it is to ensure that it arrives safely and in the same
condition in which it left our workshop.
Double-Boxed Protection
For Radios Under 40 Pounds
Smaller radios are
professionally packed using a multi-layer protection system designed to
absorb shock and minimize movement during transit.
Each radio is; Carefully wrapped in
two layers of large 1-inch bubble wrap, Placed securely inside a
heavy-duty cardboard box, Surrounded with
protective fill material to eliminate empty spaces and movement, Wrapped again in
additional protective material. Then it is secured inside a
second heavy-duty outer box for maximum protectio. This double-boxing method
creates two separate impact zones, dramatically reducing the chance of
shipping damage.
Before shipment, we provide
photographs of the packing process so you can see exactly how your radio
has been protected prior to shipping.
Once shipped, you will
receive: Tracking information, Shipping receipts, and Insurance documentation.
Most importantly, payment is
not required until you are satisfied that your purchase has been packed
to safely withstand the rigours of shipping.
Boxed and Crated Protection
For Radios Over 40 Pounds
Larger and heavier radios
require an even greater level of protection.
These radios receive the
same careful internal packing and heavy-duty boxing described above.
However, instead of a second cardboard box, the radio is enclosed within
a custom-built wooden shipping frame constructed from:
Solid 2×4
or 2x2 framing depending on radio-size
3/4-inch plywood panels
The frame is covered with
heavy cardboard for shipping. This creates an extremely durable
protective shell around the radio, helping it withstand rough handling
during transport.
Because of the added
protection, the crating process typically increases the shipment weight
by approximately 10 pounds.

Why We Charge for
Professional Packing
Properly packing a vintage radio
for safe shipment is a time-consuming and specialized process that
requires far more than simply placing an item in a box. Antique radios
are fragile, irreplaceable pieces of history that often contain delicate
veneers, glass dials, original finishes, and aging electronic components
that can easily be damaged during transit if not properly protected.
The packing fee helps cover the cost of
premium materials. Old Fidelity absorbs the cost of labour for the many
hours required to carefully prepare your radio for shipment — you only
pay for the cost of materials.
